Essen, 9 November 2006. In an international study KarstadtQuelle AG ranked among the 50 leading companies regarding transparency of sustainability, i.e. the adherence to environmental, social and management standards. This is the result of a study by rating agency Standards & Poor's, the environmental programme of the United Nations UNEP and the independent British institute Sustain Ability. The international study "Tomorrow's Value", which was presented on Thursday, evaluates the transparency regarding sustainability in large corporations. Among the leaders are British and Dutch corporations. Only three German companies made it among the international top 50: KarstadtQuelle, Adidas and Henkel.
"Managing directors and chairmen should take note of how sustainability topics have changed international competition," said Sustain Ability Director Peter Zollinger. Sustainability was more and more becoming part of the core business. In this context transparency and disclosure were "key elements for healthy financial markets and the disclosure of information regarding environmental, social and company management topics," added George Dallas, Managing Director at Standard & Poor's.
Since 2004, KarstadtQuelle AG has achieved transparency in the implementation of business aspects through, among other measures, the regular publication of its sustainability report. Moreover, as a mediator between producers and customers, KarstadtQuelle has consistently supported adherence to social and environmental standards together with its partners for years.
